Thanksgiving Turkey Bird Flu Prevention Tips

The geniuses over at BaconToday.com have just raised the bar for Thanksgiving Dinner.  I’m sure by now you’ve heard of the genetic masterpiece, the Turducken.  It’s a turkey that’s stuffed with duck, which has already been stuffed with chicken.  It’s basically one of those Russian stacking dolls(that you keep opening up only to find a smaller doll which also contains a smaller doll and so on), yet much more delicious.

What those Bacon obsessors have done is take the Turducken and add the next logical step, wrap that bitch in bacon!  Unfortunately I’ve found this just now, and I think I’m going to have a (now boring)cajun fried turkey this year..but you can bet I’ll keep this in mind for years to come.  Although before I try, It’ll probably be good to see if anyone dies this week from direct exposure to THE TURBACONDUCKEN!!!

Pictures of the monstrosity and much much more bacon porn after the jump!

Thief Steals Woman’s Thanksgiving Turkey

November 28, 2008 Food & Nutrition, LMAO, News No Comments

Kansas City Woman Prays It Went To A Family In Need

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman returned from church Sunday to find that someone had stolen her frozen Thanksgiving turkey.

Satara Brown has a big holiday planned.

She can’t make it home to Ohio to be with her family, so she decided to invite more than a dozen people to her home to share the holiday with her.

“There are many families, children that maybe don’t have a place to go, and so I purchased a turkey, a ham and chitlins and sweet potatoes,” Brown said.

She had the turkey in the freezer in her garage. She said while she always kept the garage door down, she never bothered to lock the side door.

On her way home from church on Sunday, she picked up some chitlins, which she put in the freezer. Since the freezer was full of food, she said it wasn’t until she got back into her house that it dawned on her that something was wrong.

Brown said to herself, “You know, that was really easy to put the chitlins in the freezer. Why was it easy for me, where’s the turkey?”

When she looked around, she realized she was also missing a stadium chair. Brown said the thief left behind a lot more valuable items such as tools.

“But I did think it was funny that they only took the turkey and a chair and not all the other things that were in my garage. Like, they didn’t want my dessert?”

Brown said she has a good job. She could easily afford to replace the turkey, so she and her guests will still have a good Thanksgiving.

“It all worked out in the end, and whoever took the turkey, I pray it goes to a family that really needs one, but stealing is not the way,” Brown said.

She said she planned to lock her side garage door, just in case who ever stole the turkey decided they would also like the homemade lemon pie they left behind.

Do Microwave Weapons Kill?

Although high-powered microwave weapons are designed to destroy the electronic equipment used by enemy command centers, their effect on humans in the vicinity is less clear. The U.S. military says HPM weapons are non-lethal, but that doesn’t mean free from harm. The U.S Marines Corp. is currently developing a microwave-based weapon that inflicts a brief, intense burning sensation on the target’s skin similar to touching a hot light bulb. Mounted on Humvee, the weapon is designed for crowd dispersal. The temperature settings are variable, however, and can be set as high as 130 degrees F. Given that temperature variability, it’s possible that someone in the path of a HPM burst might be cooked like a meal readied by a microwave oven. Meanwhile, scientists at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee have proposed building an electromagnetic pulse weapon that would disrupt a person’s short term memory and cause him to lose control of involuntary body functions. So whereas a HPM weapon’s lethality is uncertain, it’s definitely going to hurt, leaving the victim incapacitated for a short period of time. –Frank Vizard

Getting Enough Garlic? – Dr. Weil

Q. Getting Enough Garlic?

Why don’t you recommend powdered and chopped onion and garlic? Does the processing cause them to lose nutritional value?

Answer (Published 11/18/2008)

Garlic is powerful natural therapeutic herb in addition to being a strong-flavored seasoning for food. It can help lower cholesterol and high blood pressure and may help prevent heart attacks by reducing blood clotting. What’s more, raw garlic is a potent antibiotic that is especially active against fungal infections. It has immune-stimulating properties as well as antibacterial and antiviral effects. The compound that is principally responsible for garlic’s disease-fighting ability (and pungent smell) is allicin, also found in lesser amounts in onions and other white vegetables. But note that allicin is formed from an inactive precursor compound only after garlic is mashed or chopped and exposed to air for at least a few minutes.

Onions haven’t been studied as well as garlic, but, eaten raw, they may also inhibit clotting, and they appear to have similar immune-enhancing compounds.

While still useful as seasonings, both onion and garlic lose most of their medicinal value, including their cardiovascular benefits and antibiotic properties when they’re cooked or dried. In addition, commercial garlic capsules do not preserve the full activity of the fresh bulb.

You can use garlic as an effective home remedy for colds: when I feel a cold coming on, I chop a few cloves of garlic a day into my food. The idea is to eat raw garlic at the first onset of symptoms. A clove or two a day is recommended for people who suffer from chronic or recurrent infections, frequent yeast infections, or low resistance to colds and flu.

To make raw garlic more palatable, chop it fine, mix it with food, and eat it with a meal – add it last when you’re using it in cooking. Or cut a clove into chunks and swallow them whole like pills. If garlic gives you flatulence, eat less. Chewing some fresh parsley after eating garlic also minimizes the odor.
