Thanksgiving Turkey Bird Flu Prevention Tips

The geniuses over at BaconToday.com have just raised the bar for Thanksgiving Dinner.  I’m sure by now you’ve heard of the genetic masterpiece, the Turducken.  It’s a turkey that’s stuffed with duck, which has already been stuffed with chicken.  It’s basically one of those Russian stacking dolls(that you keep opening up only to find a smaller doll which also contains a smaller doll and so on), yet much more delicious.

What those Bacon obsessors have done is take the Turducken and add the next logical step, wrap that bitch in bacon!  Unfortunately I’ve found this just now, and I think I’m going to have a (now boring)cajun fried turkey this year..but you can bet I’ll keep this in mind for years to come.  Although before I try, It’ll probably be good to see if anyone dies this week from direct exposure to THE TURBACONDUCKEN!!!

Pictures of the monstrosity and much much more bacon porn after the jump!

Thief Steals Woman’s Thanksgiving Turkey

Kansas City Woman Prays It Went To A Family In Need

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman returned from church Sunday to find that someone had stolen her frozen Thanksgiving turkey.

Satara Brown has a big holiday planned.

She can’t make it home to Ohio to be with her family, so she decided to invite more than a dozen people to her home to share the holiday with her.

“There are many families, children that maybe don’t have a place to go, and so I purchased a turkey, a ham and chitlins and sweet potatoes,” Brown said.

She had the turkey in the freezer in her garage. She said while she always kept the garage door down, she never bothered to lock the side door.

On her way home from church on Sunday, she picked up some chitlins, which she put in the freezer. Since the freezer was full of food, she said it wasn’t until she got back into her house that it dawned on her that something was wrong.

Brown said to herself, “You know, that was really easy to put the chitlins in the freezer. Why was it easy for me, where’s the turkey?”

When she looked around, she realized she was also missing a stadium chair. Brown said the thief left behind a lot more valuable items such as tools.

“But I did think it was funny that they only took the turkey and a chair and not all the other things that were in my garage. Like, they didn’t want my dessert?”

Brown said she has a good job. She could easily afford to replace the turkey, so she and her guests will still have a good Thanksgiving.

“It all worked out in the end, and whoever took the turkey, I pray it goes to a family that really needs one, but stealing is not the way,” Brown said.

She said she planned to lock her side garage door, just in case who ever stole the turkey decided they would also like the homemade lemon pie they left behind.

Turkey Vultures

November 28, 2008 Nature, Science No Comments

“When wildlife or freshmen in the area expire, one of the possible outcomes is attracting vultures. This one was dining on west campus near the creek.

Turkey Vultures (Cathartes aura) are year-round residents of Davis and are common throughout the rest of California, though there seem to be less of them around campus and the other urban parts of town during the winter.

Though Turkey Vultures generally look a lot like the old world vultures, they share name only. They belong to the Cathartidae, which was briefly grouped with storks, herons and egrets in the order Ciconiiformes but is now back with Falconiformes. Similar species include the Black Vulture and the California Condor, neither of which is likely to be seen around Yolo County. The Turkey Vulture is easily distinguished from the former by its red head (on adults), and whitish remiges (the feather on the trailing edge of the wing) on the underside of the wing. From the latter, it is distinguished by smaller size and underwing color–the California Condor from below shows white triangles against black. Also, the Turkey Vulture often “wobbles” in flight and sometimes holds its wings in a crimped V-shaped position.

Some Turkey Vulture statistics from The Wheeler Guide to Raptors of Western North America:

Males and females are roughly the same size, though males are slightly larger on average.

The species’ wingspan is 63-71 inches, and the length from head to tail is 24-28 inches.

Turkey Vultures can regulate their temperature by either sunning or urohydrosis (defecating on their legs).

They are not very vocal but they can hiss or grunt.

Turkey Vultures are susceptible to illegal shooting, lead poisoning and electrocution–the same problems that affect the California Condor–but are not threatened as a species and possibly number over three million.”

RALEIGH, N.C. — Stopped. Cold turkey.

North Carolina authorities say a shopper clubbed an alleged carjacker with a frozen turkey as he tried to steal a woman’s car in a grocery store parking lot Sunday.

Police say 30-year-old Fred Louis Ervin of Raleigh stole money from a gas station before running across the street to a Harris Teeter store in a town just south of Raleigh. Garner police say he began beating Irene Moorman Bailey while stealing her car.

Other shoppers came to her rescue, including one who hit Ervin with the turkey. Police did not release the person’s name.

Despite serious head injuries, Ervin got away in Bailey’s car and hit several other cars as he fled. But police arrested him a short time later.

He faces several charges including assault inflicting serious injury. Ervin was hospitalized today in good condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. He had not yet been assigned a lawyer and was to appear in court Dec. 30.
